Custom orders will have their own timelines, from concept and creation to shipping and receipt. Timing will be discussed with the customer prior to placing order. Custom orders can take 4-6 weeks until shipped.

What is gold-filled?

Gold-filled products are an excellent alternative to solid gold, offering gold's characteristic warm yellow tone at a fraction of the cost. Gold-filled is made by heat- and pressure-bonding a layer of karat gold to jewelers' brass. This thick, permanently bonded layer of gold (12k or 14k) is what makes gold-filled more durable and valuable than gold-plated pieces. Gold-filled will never flake, peel, or fall off, unlike gold-plate. Gold-filled is legally required to contain 5% gold by weight. Gold-filled pieces can still tarnish, but it takes a special set of circumstances. As long as the piece is well cared for, gold-filled jewelry can last a lifetime. (source: Halstead)

All gold used at Rhubarb Jewelry is full karat 10k, 12k, or 14k gold or gold-filled material and is labeled appropriately in the product description.

What is gold plate?

Gold plating (or “dipped” gold) is a microscopic film of gold applied to brass. The amount of gold used does not compose a measurable proportion of the product’s total weight (0.05% vs gold-filled’s 5%). The thin gold plating is easily scratched, exposing the brass, and often wears through over time. Gold-plated products have a short lifespan since they are unable to stand up to water and normal wear conditions like gold-filled products can. (source: Halstead)

Rhubarb Jewelry pieces do not contain gold-plated material.
